Some time back I built a storage tank using a soda can. Since then I have been wanting to make one that had burst open. Here are the results so far.
I had experimented with this idea some time ago. The way I created the rupture in the past was to cut two slits in the soda can, and tear the metal back. It did not have a natural appearance. For this project I decided to cut an access hole in the can so I could push the material outward from the inside.

After the initial hole was started I continued poking and tearing until I had a rupture that I was satisfied with

Not worrying too much about appearance, I used hot glue to close up the access opening.

I like the look of welded seams. In the past I used hot glue to create welded seams. It looked ok, however the bead was to big. This time I decided to try 3D paint. I just sort of made up the pattern as I went.

I will be posting a quick description of how I took this picture in the off topic section.

Next was grey primer, gloss orange spray paint, a brown wash, and a rust weathering powder.

I wanted to have a destroyed ladder on the side of the tank. I figured I could either buy a pre-made plastic from Plastruct or Evergreen, or I could make one by soldering together copper wire. I chose the copper wire.
